Botulinum toxin is an ideal treatment options for patients who have wrinkles or folds between the eyebrows and crow’s feet. Botulinum toxin can also be used for hyperhidrosis, or excess sweating in the hands or armpits. Bruxism, or grinding, can caused by masseter hypertrophy.
Chin augmentation at Cape Cod Plastic Surgery is a procedure performed in our in-office accredited surgical suite under sedation. A chin implant of silicone or polyethylene can be inserted via an intraoral or submental approach to add projection to the chin. This leaves negligible scarring and will aesthetically improve your profile. The surgery takes one hour. Patients are back to work in less than 1 week.
Whether due to aging, drastic weight loss or undesired fat deposition, patients may want to improve the appearance of their neck. This can be accomplished in our accredited private in-office surgical suite under sedation or at Cape Cod Hospital under general anesthesia. Depending on the nature of the problem, Dr. Fater may be able to correct the issue with liposuction alone or by reshaping the neck with muscle tightening and direct fat removal. This is frequently performed in combination with excess skin removal behind the ears. Patients can usually return to work in 7-10 days.
If you are unhappy with appearance of your nose, the team at Cape Cod Plastic Surgery can help. Dr. Fater can improve the shape and size of your nose with local anesthesia coupled with sedation in our accredited private in-office surgical suite. This is accomplished through inconspicuously placed scars. Both bony and cartilaginous deformities can be sculpted to create your desired look. A straight nose, and more refined tip is attainable. Most patients can return to regular activities at 1 week.
For a more youthful look, a blepharoplasty may be right for you. This procedure removes skin excess in the upper and/or lower eyelids. Excess fat can also be removed from the lids at that time to eliminate bulging fat pockets around the eyes. Occasionally the excess lower lid fat can be repositioned to correct the commonly encountered “tear trough deformity”. If your visual fields are impaired secondary to skin excess, medical insurance may cover upper lid blepharoplasty. This surgery can be performed in our private in-office accredited surgical suite under sedation, or in Cape Cod Hospital. Blepharoplasty is frequently combined with endoscopic brow lifting to rejuvenate the upper face.
A brow lift can rejuvenate an upper face which may have dropped over time. The descent of the eyebrows contributes to possible visual field loss as well as creating the perception of aging. Elevation of the brows can reverse this descent. The forehead is endoscopically (via small incisions with a camera attached to a long tube) lifted from behind the hairline. This is commonly performed in our accredited private in-office surgical suite under sedation. Recovery is generally under one week.
TCA Chemical Peel
Chemical peels are used to treat a variety of issues with the skin, including dry patches, fine lines and wrinkles, and sun damaged skin, acne scars and more. By removing the top layer of skin, we’re able to reveal a new layer that is taut and more youthful looking. We offer a range of peels depending upon on the patient’s complexion and their skin care needs. Meet with Dr. Marc Fater today to learn about which treatment option is right for you.
Mild Chemical Peel
Moderate Chemical Peel
Deep Chemical Peel
Recovery time of each chemical peel varies depending on the intensity. All patients will experience some redness and irritation, and can expect some crusting to occur. Those that choose a moderate or deep chemical peel can expect scabbing to occur. It’s important that you do not pick at these scabs.
Ear Lobe Repair
Occasionally an earlobe piercing may become elongated from heavy earrings or traction on the earring by a child or clothing. Without repair, this stretched opening will persist and earrings may fall out and be lost. This widened opening may be repaired surgically with local anesthetic in the office in 20 minutes or less. Persistent defects from earlobe plugs can also be corrected. Give us a call if you want to save your earring.
Hyperactive muscles in the face can, over time, cause wrinkles. Patients are often concerned about vertical lines or furrows in the area between the eyebrows or “glabella”. These are due to strong corrugator muscle activity. Other common sites of facial wrinkles are the forehead, from excessive activity of the frontalis causing transverse lines, or the crow’s feet lateral to the eyes, from hyperactive orbicularis oculi muscles. These muscles can be weakened significantly by botulism toxin. There are several manufacturers of this toxin-Allergan makes Botox, Galderma makes Dysport and Merz makes Xeomin. These are all effective tools in treating the muscles that cause the wrinkles. The effect, after injection in the office, takes 3 to4 days to work and generally lasts 3-4 months. Other areas on the face that are commonly treated are the fine lines around the mouth and hypertrophic masseter muscles in the lower face causing bruxism or teeth grinding. The masseters can also widen the lower face which is effectively treated with botulism toxin.
Even if you age gracefully, you may still be dissatisfied with the face in the mirror. A facelift can restore a more youthful appearance, one that matches how you feel. Dr. Fater has decades of experience in facial cosmetic surgery and can work out a plan to meet your expectations with a minimum amount of downtime. There are many options in face lifting but in general, a facelift will elevate the deep structures of the face which may have fallen with gravity, while simultaneously removing skin excess, all while leaving the scar inconspicuously placed in natural creases or hairlines. This surgery is usually performed in our private accredited in-office surgical suite under sedation. When combined with other procedures it can also be done at Cape Cod Hospital under general anesthesia. Most patients are back to their regular activities within 2-3 weeks.
There are many facial fillers that can be utilized to effect change in the appearance of the face. There are volumizers (Sculptra, Voluma, Radiesse, fat) which can add deep volume to a face which is volume deficient after weight loss or with normal aging. Other fillers can be used more superficially to improve the nasolabial folds between the nose and the corners of the mouth, the marionette lines under the corner of the mouth, or tear trough depressions (Vollure, Juvederm, Radiesse, Restylane). Other fillers made from smaller particle sizes can be injected more superficially into fine lines around the mouth or eyes (Restylane Silk, Belotero). Some patients like to augment their lips with hyaluronic acid fillers like Juvederm, or Restylane. Volumizers generally last longer (18months to 3 years). More superficial injections using smaller particle sizes last from 6 months to 18 months.
Otoplasty (Ear Surgery)
Otoplasty is a technique to correct protuberant ears. This surgery, usually performed from behind the ear, is designed to correct an ear which is excessively protruding. This is commonly a congenital problem. The surgery would restore a more natural shape and proportion to the ear(s). Other cartilaginous deformities resulting in unusual shapes in the ear convolutions can also be performed. The surgery could be accomplished in our in-office surgical suite or at Cape Cod Hospital with sedation.
Sculptra Aesthetic Is a volumizing and rejuvenating product, within 2-3 sessions over 2-3 months can restore facial volume, which can last up to 3 years. We have found that these injections can improve skin tone and appearance. These injections are performed in the office.
